First New Medical School in over 100 Years to Open in the GTA in 2025 for 175 students

Centre will train the next generation of nurses and allied health professionals to look after the people of Brampton, Peel and Ontario and support a shared vision for culturally competent care.

Establishing a medical school in Brampton has been a significant part of the City’s ongoing advocacy work. In July 2021, Brampton City Council invested $1 million for planning a future medical school in the city.

In March 2022, the Government of Ontario announced that it is expanding medical school education and adding 80 undergraduate seats and 95 postgraduate positions for the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine in Brampton when it opens in 2025. This medical school will strengthen our city’s healthcare system to one that fosters local talent, creates economic growth and is considerate of our cultural diversity.

The school is being designed around community centric primary care, culturally respectful care, leveraging technology to improve patient outcomes, developing inter-professional networks of health care, and focusing on the aging and supporting seniors.
