The City of Brampton and Argo, a transit tech company, have teamed up on a $10.9-million, 12-month partnership to bring “smart” transit tools to the city’s bus network. The goal is to make public transit more efficient, reliable and better suited to how people actually move through the city.

“We’re making it easier for people to access transit,” said Paul Vicente, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 5. “By tackling the last mile and bringing service to riders, we are enhancing the transit experience and getting people to where they need to go faster and more efficiently.”

Argo’s Smart Routing™ system enables real-time data collection on how people use Brampton Transit, applies AI-powered insights to optimize routes, schedules and service levels, and gives transit planners better tools for designing new routes in growing areas of the city.

As one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, Brampton and its transit system are feeling the strain. This partnership gives the city access to the kind of technology used by larger agencies like the TTC and TransLink, without the years of in-house development.

“Brampton is a city that thrives on innovation,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “This pilot with Argo represents our commitment to implementing outcomes that better serve our community. By adopting Argo’s comprehensive system as a complement to our existing transit network, we’re bringing Brampton to the forefront of transit innovation while creating more efficient and accessible transportation options and ‘last mile’ solutions for our residents.”

With population growth and gridlock on the rise in the GTA, cities like Brampton are turning to data-driven tools to help public transit compete with the convenience of driving.
